For really clear lakes hiding the line is important. Fluorocarbon Fishing Line is a lot harder for the fish to see and will spook them less. Or that's what the internet and AI says. It doesn't have to be 12 pound test line. But it is a good learning point.Any Fluorocarbon line will work. This is the stuff I bought.

A multi-tool pocket knife is a must.  This Swiss style doesn't have built in pliers which come in handy too.  It does have scissors for trimming tag ends off the line - which can scare fish.  Still it is a pretty good option you will just need to carry needle nose pliers too.  Multi Tool Knife

Another type of Multi Tool has built in pliers.  This is the version I always carry.  You will need a line snipper of some type for tag ends on the line.  Multi Tool
